Vintage Conditions
The 2020 vintage was unforgettable. The region experienced a perfect growing season with warmer than average spring temperatures and ideal summer conditions. Little to no rain, low disease risk and timely flowering of the Marri trees to distract the birds, eased pressure in the vineyard. The relative ease of vintage was in stark contrast to the happenings of the world at the time, with ferocious bushfires ravaging the East Coast and the Covid-19 outbreak unravelling. Yields were down in 2020 resulting in exceptional fruit concentration.
Winemaking Note
The fruit was hand-picked, de-stemmed and the berries just split to allow for minimal breakdown of the skin and to preserve the natural fruit freshness. The grapes were pumped over three times a day for 18 days, after which the wine was separated from the skins and allowed to finish fermentation in premium French oak barriques. The wine is aged in 45% new oak barrels for 18 months, after which it was blended, clarified and bottled.
Aroma
Blackberries, currants and lifted tones of violets and mocha.
Palate
Dense textures of black fruits, spiced meats and dark chocolate are laid upon a fine and opulent body of blue fruit tannin and power. Tart hints of cherry skin and sherbet provide lift and poise to a persistent and mineral finish.
Cellaring
Enjoyed for it's freshness now or cellar for up to 10 years.
