2018 Streicker Nysa: A Cabernet Franc-Forward Flagship

2018 Streicker Nysa: A Cabernet Franc-Forward Flagship

Worth It's Weight in Gold

Every now and then, a wine comes along that reminds us why we love making wine so much. For us at Clairault Streicker, the 2018 Streicker Nysa is exactly that wine.

Born from heritage vines and crafted with absolute care, it’s one we reach for whenever we want to celebrate the best of Margaret River in a glass.

What makes it so special? For starters, Nysa is a blend led by Cabernet Franc (52%), complemented beautifully by Cabernet Sauvignon (48%). Both varieties were hand-picked from our historic A1 and A2 blocks at the Wilyabrup Clairault Vineyard. These vines were first planted back in 1976; are old, deep-rooted plantings that give fruit with remarkable concentration and character.

Crafting Nysa

When we made the 2018 vintage, we wanted to let each variety sing in its own way before bringing them together. The Cabernet Sauvignon was matured for 15-months in French oak barriques, while the Cabernet Franc rested in larger puncheons.

This approach allowed us to capture the plush dark fruit and structure of Cabernet Sauvignon alongside the lift, spice, and elegance of Cabernet Franc. The result is a wine that feels powerful yet graceful, full of layers that continue to unfold with every sip.

Even before the first corks were pulled, we felt Nysa was something unique. Receiving 97 points from respected wine critic Ray Jordan was both humbling and affirming.

On the nose a combination of blackberry and cherry with a little chocolaty dark plum release. The palate has excellent fleshy with a thread of minerally acid and fine tannins in support… outstanding.

For us, it’s a wine that you open, pour, and then pause—because it demands your attention.

Why Roast Shoulder of Lamb?

The next question is always: what do I serve it with?

For us, nothing showcases Nysa better than a slow-roasted shoulder of lamb. There’s a wonderful synergy between the two.

Lamb has this natural richness, that beautiful balance of meatiness and fat. When you roast it slowly—with garlic, rosemary, and thyme—the aromas fill the kitchen, and the texture becomes meltingly tender. That’s where Nysa shines.

The dark fruit and herbal undertones of the wine echo the flavours of the lamb and herbs. The fine tannins cut through the richness, while the bright acidity refreshes the palate with each bite.

Add in a drizzle of pan juices or a splash of mint sauce, and suddenly every sip of Nysa feels even more alive. It’s the kind of pairing that doesn’t just taste good—it makes the whole dining experience feel complete.

A Wine with a Story

Nysa isn’t just another wine in our collection. It’s a statement of what the Margaret River Wine Region can offer when you lean into both tradition and innovation.

Naming it after the mountain where Dionysus, the Greek god of wine, was raised by the nymphs this wine is about celebration, about craftsmanship, and about the joy of sharing something truly special at the table.

To us, opening a bottle of the 2018 Streicker Nysa alongside a roast lamb shoulder is more than just a meal. It’s an occasion. It’s about gathering friends and family, setting the table, and letting good food and wine bring everyone together.

Bringing It Home

If you’re planning your next dinner party or simply want to treat yourself, we can’t recommend this pairing enough.

Roast lamb shoulder doesn’t need to be complicated—just a slow roast, plenty of herbs, and patience. Then, pour a glass of Nysa, sit back, and let the magic happen.

We made this wine to be savoured. With its critical acclaim, old-vine pedigree, and depth of flavour, the 2018 Streicker Nysa represents one of the proudest moments in our winemaking story.
